Myanmar’s newly-installed military rulers named Than Nyein governor of the country’s central bank on February 2, a day after their apparently successful coup d’état.
This is his second term as governor, after the previous military government appointed him to lead the Central Bank of Myanmar in 2007. His term coincided with the beginning of Myanmar’s democratisation process, with a new constitution adopted in 2008 and the first elections held in 2010.
